Wouldn't it be great if you could correct your near-sightedness and reduce your dependence on glasses or contact lenses — without having to undergo eye surgery?
  
It might sound far-fetched, but it's a reality for many people. It's called orthokeratology  and it is available at the Valley Plaza Optometrist.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is a non-surgical method of correction; patients simply wear specially designed contact lenses overnight and remove the lenses each morning. This results in 20/20 vision for daytime business, leisure and sporting activities without wearing contact lenses or spectacles.
 
Research has proven Ortho-K to be safe and reliable, has the added benefits of being non-surgical, reversible and cost effective. It is an ideal alternative for patients considering laser surgery.

Latest clinical and scientific research shows that OrthoK can slow the progression (worsening) of short-sightedness, or myopia, in childhood by around 90%. In many children OrthoK can even halt the progression of myopia. In our practice all of our patients have had less deterioration in their vision and most have had no change at all.

This study was done here in Sydney and proved how Orthok slowed down the rate of deterioration in childrens's eye.

Having heard about the orthoK lenses from a relative, I was curious but also slightly hesitant when first approached about the possibility of using orthoK lenses. Having required the use of glasses for many years prior, I was keen to see if I could truly do away with the hassles that came with using glasses.
During the initial talks and throughout the trial period, I was very impressed by the amount of information offered in regards to the product and the friendly professionalism of the staff. They patiently answered my queries and explained the whole process in detail.
Furthermore, during the trial period, the optometrist was very patient and careful in ensuring that I would be able to obtain the maximum benefit from the product. 
Admittedly, the contacts were at first uncomfortable, however I was able to quickly adjust and become accustomed to wearing the lenses throughout the night.
I have since been using the orthoK lenses for the past five years and am extremely glad that I made the switch. The severity of my short-sightedness has not changed and I am able to enjoy the benefit of 20/20 vision on a daily basis.
Although it can sometimes be annoying to have to put my lenses in after a long day, the benefits of the lenses are worth the small amount of effort before bed.
Every morning when I wake up, I just need to remove the lenses and not think any further about my eyesight. I have amazingly clear vision and no longer have to worry about misplacing my glasses, ensuring that I bring them with me or about them fogging up when eating a hot meal. I highly recommend making the switch to orthoK lenses.
